Greensboro passed away at home, peacefully Tuesday evening, December 23, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Merl will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her son Eric Riddle, daughter-in-law April, and grandsons Zacchary and Nicholas, many nieces and nephews from both Thacker and Riddle families.
Merl was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, Charles Melvin Riddle, parents William and Stella Thacker, sisters Leva, Elva, Rawla, Betty, Billie, Patty, Irabelle, and brother Bruce.
Merl was born and grew up in Pikeville, Kentucky, and moved to Greensboro, NC to complete her secondary school education.
She married Charles at age 25 and they lived in Greensboro for 57 years before moving to Archdale to be closer to their son’s family.
She was a long-time employee of Greensboro Country Club/Greensboro City Club where she worked closely with her sister Ronnie.
In her spare time, she loved to crochet, work puzzles and crosswords, read her bible, poetry and literature. Charles and Merl spent many evenings socializing with her sisters and their spouses.
Along with family she loved her pets and had several dogs and one cat.
Her family will always remember her quick wit, sense of humor, and her love for her grandsons.
Special thank you to Hospice of Davidson County, especially her nurse, Ashley Jordan, who lovingly cared for her and supported the family since April 2024.
Merl will be laid to rest beside her husband Charles at Guilford Memorial Park on Friday, January 2, 2026. Visitation at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 6000W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC from 10am-11am with the graveside service to follow.
