It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Thomas Smith, age 63, on September 10, 2025, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Born August 15, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a current resident of Reidsville, North Carolina, Michael was the son of the late Rita (Lombardi) Smith and Charles Smith.
Michael was the proud father of his son, Charles, and a devoted grandfather to Gordon, who held a very special place in his heart. He is survived by his three siblings, Elizabeth, Irene, and Fredrick; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins; and a wide circle of family and friends who loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Smith, and his beloved great-great-niece, Elyanna.
A passionate sports fan, Michael could often be found on Sundays in his recliner, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles while stirring a big pot of gravy and sharing his love of Italian food—especially pasta. He was equally devoted to the Philadelphia Phillies, and his passion for his hometown teams never went unnoticed.
Michael cherished camping trips and time at the campground, where he enjoyed being surrounded by his extended family. Known to many as “Uncle Mike,” he had a gift for making others laugh. Among his nieces and nephews, his famous saying, “Uncle Mike KNOWS everything,” became both a motto and a treasured memory.
Michael’s legacy is one of love and laughter. He was always ready with advice, a listening ear, and a helping hand for those in need. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Remember me as I lived not as I've died.
