

Miles W. Bowker, age 93, passed away peacefully October 13, 2012. He was born November 17, 1918 in New Jersey, educated in Morristown (NJ) High School, Stevens Institute in New Jersey, and Swarthmore College, PA, where he had a life-long relationship.
Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00pm in the chapel.
Miles loved his 44 years at Bell Laboratories working on such projects as submarine detection during WWII and the first transatlantic telephone cable. He is well remembered for mentoring his staff. He retired to Greensboro where he volunteered in the business office of Guilford College as a jack-of-all trades.
He belonged to IEEE and Sigma Xi. He was an active member in the Hamilton Lakes Lion’s Club and a life-long servant in his church.
He was active in bowling, playing bridge, golf, tennis and games with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley, to whom he was devoted. He was proud of his 3 children, Ross (Deborah) Bowker of Charleston, SC; Linda (Richard) Baugher of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Janet Bowker who moved to Greensboro to support the family, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
