With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Monica Therese Moore, who departed this life on January 19, 2025 at the age of 72 after a fierce battle with breast cancer. Born on May 19, 1952, in Rocky Mount North Carolina, she lived a life of faith, love, and service.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jay Moore; her two children, Amber Watkins and Benny Moore; her two cherished grandchildren, Airlie and Bryce Watkins; and her brother, Norman Phillips. Her family and church community were her greatest joys.
Monica spent her earliest years on her family’s farm in Enfield North Carolina, where she fostered a deep love for animals, specifically her pet chickens. Later, her family moved to Lakewood, Colorado, where she spent her youth exploring the Rockies and befriending cattle ranchers—cultivating her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. She graduated from the University of Colorado in Fort Collins and was proud of her accomplishments working for Mountain Bell in Denver as a young woman. Once back in North Carolina, Monica attended night classes to earn her business degree from Guilford College, while caring for her family and working full-time for Volvo Trucking.
A woman of unwavering faith, she dedicated more than three decades to her church community at Muir’s Chapel Methodist Church and later at Mt. Pisgah Church. She was described by her pastor as a "prayer warrior" and a deeply spiritual woman. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond the church, volunteering with Urban Ministries in various capacities for a number of years.
In her personal time, Monica enjoyed painting, studying history, reading, gardening, and cuddling with her horrible cat. She was happiest outdoors, whether tending her garden or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. Monica leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and strength. A Celebration of her life will be held at Mount Pisgah Church on January 27th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to Mount Pisgah Church. She will be dearly missed but her memory will live on through her loved ones.
Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is honored to serve the Moore Family.
