

Greensboro - Nancy Costello Morrison, 84, passed away on July 28, 2014. Nancy fought her long battle with Alzheimer’s at home supported by her husband of 59 years, Edward Tyrrell Morrison. He was at her side, along with her family, as he had been for their entire marriage. Nancy had a great spirit and sense of humor, an open heart and loved her family dearly. Nancy was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home at 515 N. Elm St., on Wednesday, July 30, from 6:00-8:00 pm. There will be a funeral mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church at 109 W. Smith Street at 11:00 am, on Thursday, July 31; immediately followed by the inurnment of her ashes at St. Pius X Catholic Church on 2210 N. Elm Street.
Nancy was born on October 13, 1929 to Agnes Kennealy and Edward P. Costello in St. Louis, MO. She graduated from St. Agnes High School in Indianapolis Indiana and went on to receive a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Mo. After graduation she went to work for Western Electric, where she was the first woman professional at the site, in the Chemistry Laboratory. While working at Western Electric, she met her husband, Ed and they were married on October 22, 1955.
Nancy and Ed raised 5 children. With Ed’s career, Nancy and her family moved several times; to Bel Air, MD, Atlanta, GA, Red Bank, NJ; and finally settling in Greensboro, NC, where they stayed after Ed’s retirement from AT&T.
Nancy was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Nancy enjoyed her children and grandchildren, and was an amazing presence in their lives. She was an avid contract bridge player and was President of her Investment Club for many years. Before her illness, Nancy and Ed enjoyed traveling and visits with their children and grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband Edward; her children, Cindy Morrison of Lake Sherwood, CA;, Julie Shoaff (William) of Charlotte, NC; Lisa Marcucci (Michael) of Springfield, VA; Edward Morrison, Jr. (Priscilla) of Skillman, NJ; and Ann Thackray (John), of Lake Zurich, IL.; grandchildren, Brooke and Patrick Shoaff, Anna and Grace Marcucci, Kendall and Paige Morrison, and Abigail and Megan Thackray; and her sister Frances C. Leer (Jerry).
Nancy is preceded in death by her sisters: Mary C. Shanks, Agnes C. Akin, and Jane C. Hilts; and her 2 brothers: Edward Costello and J. Robert Costello.
