I am a daughter, sister, grand-daughter, niece, cousin, partner, mother, student and friend. I am confident and scared, terrified and excited. I am loving and caring and thoughtful and hopeful. I am sick and tired. I am shy, friendly, careful and careless. I am broken and whole. I am misunderstood, misguided and misled. I am hardworking and determined. I pray to God and cry my tears. I smile on the outside while I hurt on the inside. I listen to others who listen to me. I believe in passion and true love.
Those were the words of Ophelia Vallery Johnson used to describe herself. She was that and so much more. She was born to Ernest and Sedonia Coco Vallery in Geismar-Ascension Parish, LA in 1934 and passed away in the loving company and care of her family on May 27, 2023 in Greensboro, NC. The family will have a private interment ceremony and host a Celebration of Life event on Saturday, July 1st in Geismar, La.
Her family will remember her strong work ethic, independent nature and entrepreneurial spirit. She is loved and cherished by her two daughters, Terry McWilliams Jones of Greensboro, NC and Cassandra McWilliams Chandler of Hillsboro, NC; grandchildren, Mailliw Jackson, “T” White, Gary McWilliams, Gyra Linder, Garielle Thomas, Wyatt Chandler, Gariam McWilliams, Cassandra McWilliams and George McWilliams; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
