Ophelia Hempstead Nelson, 72, a resident of High Point passed away on Saturday December 16, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ophelia was born July 24, 1945 in Kingsland, AR, the daughter of Roy O. Hempstead, Sr. and Lillie Mae Robinson Hempstead.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Hempstead.
Ophelia is survived by her husband Lawrence Nelson, Sr. of the home; two sons, Lawrence Nelson, Jr. and wife Trenny of Greensboro, M.J. Nelson II and wife Alie of Simi Valley, CA; two sisters, Ruby Hempstead of San Diego, CA, Laura Jean H. Still and husband Jimmy of Thousand Oaks, CA; four brothers, Roy O. Hempstead, Jr. and wife Karen, Floyd Hempstead, James Hempstead and Merrell Hempstead all of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Hannah Pinkston, M.J. Nelson III, Amanda Nelson, Serena Nelson and one great grandson, Everett Pinkston.
A Service to Celebrate Ophelia’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday January 6, 2018, at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Pastor Dean Mattern. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 5th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
