Peggy was born June 5, 1930 in Greensboro, NC to William and Myrtle Heath. She was the youngest of 4 siblings. In 1948 she met the love of her life, Charles Percy Allred and they married on New Year’s Eve of that year. Over their 50 years of marriage they raised two sons, Rick and Barry. Peggy was the manager of her household, always neat as a pin. She also had a hand in managing her husband’s successful neon tube business for over 40 years.
Peggy was an avid shopper and always knew where to find the best deals. She was an amazing southern cook and was known for delicious sweet treats, especially lemon squares. She remained sharp by putting together countless jigsaw puzzles and she had an affinity for TLC reality shows.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, son, Barry, brothers, Bill and Buck Heath and sister Lib Barker.
Peggy treasured her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her granddaughters Robyn Gest and Amy Peel (Matt) and grandson Zac Allred (Katie). Her great-grandchildren Colin, Jack, Aiden, Logan and Nathan Gest and Tate, Hudson and Sawyer Peel were so blessed to have had their Granny for much of their childhoods. Peggy cherished all of them and couldn’t be more proud of seeing them all grow up.
Peggy especially cherished her relationship with her best friend and very best shopping buddy for more than 60 years, Linda Ayers.
In Peggy’s final years she was lovingly cared for by her oldest son and closest friend, Rick Allred. They were quite a pair and Rick felt honored to spend these years tending to her needs.
Peggy’s sassy demeanor and sly smile will be missed by the many friends and family she encountered throughout her 95 years. She’s given her family so many memories of happy times in her home, relaxing with her on the porch and watching the boys fish in the pond. She was fiercely independent and showed her family how to handle life, no matter how hard, with poise and a perfect hairdo.
