Peggy had a deep and abiding love for her Lord Jesus Christ, followed by her love for her extended family and her legion of friends. She retired from a long and rewarding nursing career which focused on caring for the elderly. After retirement, she was active in her Bunko Club, two women’s luncheon clubs; The Red Hats and in particular, “The Steel Magnolias” which consisted of some of her oldest and dearest friends from her school days in Asheboro. Peggy was always strongly family oriented and relished participating in her various roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as her immediate family grew. She will be sorely missed by all of them. Peggy loved international and domestic travel and always returned home with exciting stories of her adventures. She was an avid reader and had an abiding love for animals. In addition to her late parents, Marvin Luther Johnson and Mattie Lee Curtis Johnson, Peggy was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Billy Andrew Jackson Johnson, and a sister, Barbara Ann Johnson McKinnon, all of Asheboro, NC.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Edwin C. Campbell, Jr.; daughter, Mary Jo Wilder Dillard and her husband Adrian; her beloved brother, Harris Lee Johnson, and his wife Marion, all of Greensboro, and by marriage; son, Michael E. Campbell of Singer Island, FL; daughters, Violet C. Campbell Denmark of Jacksonville, FL and Roxanne R. Campbell Sweeney of Riverton, WY. Her legacy also included 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 109 W. Smith St., Greensboro, NC 27401 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
