Philip Slaska, 68, of Summerfield, NC, died peacefully on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Bright Leaf Place in Danville, VA, following a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Phil was born December 23, 1952, in Huntington, NY, the son of the late Catherine and Joseph Slaska. Phil was the beloved husband of Kathryn for 42 years, the loving father of Philip C. Slaska of Clinton; Emily Borden (James) of Summerfield; Stephen Slaska (Sydney) of Wilmington, and the cherished grandfather of Spencer and Max Borden. Dear brother of Carolyn Koschier (Bob) of W. Winfield, NY and was predeceased by his son, Timothy Slaska and brother Joseph Slaska.
Phil was raised in East Northport, NY. He was a graduate of St. John’s University with a Master of Science in Education and C.W. Post University in New York with a Master of Science in Business Public Administration and Accounting. Phil was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC. He and his wife were active in Pre-Cana at St. Francis of Assisi, Greenlawn, NY before moving to North Carolina through the years. Phil will be remembered for his quick wit and kindness, as well as his love of golf and gardening. Phil enjoyed humor and was fun to be around. He will be missed.
The family is grateful for the care and compassion of Bright Leaf Place and Commonwealth Hospice of Virginia during his last days.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 11, 7-9 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N Elm Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 12, 2021, 2:00 p.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC, by Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio. Burial will follow at St. Philip Neri Cemetery in East Northport, NY on March 19, 2021 at 11:45 a.m.
