

Dr. Ralph Harrison Beaumont, Jr., 90, a resident of Greensboro, died Friday morning February 21, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital. Dr. Beaumont was born November 10, 1923 in Roxbury, New York the son of R.H. Beaumont, Sr. and Rosamond Annie Lane Beaumont. Ralph graduated in 1940 from Staatsburg High School in Staatsburg, NY at the age of 16, where he was a member of the county championship baseball team and was awarded the mathematics, science and American History prizes. He received his BS in chemistry from Colgate University in 1943 at the age of 19. While at Colgate, he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and was an Austen Colgate Scholar.
In April 1944 he was drafted into the U.S. Navy Reserves, and was commissioned as Ensign in March 1945. He attended the Naval West Coast Sound School in San Diego where he obtained the highest scores ever achieved up to that point. Before leaving the Navy in August of 1946, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant.
In 1949 he worked for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission an in 1952 Ralph received his PhD in Chemistry from Rutgers University. He began his professional career with Huyck Felt Company in Albany, NY as Director of Research and later with WF Fancourt Company in Greensboro in research. While at Huyck, Ralph was awarded two United States Patents for technology he invented. In 1967 he founded Brin-Mont Chemical, Inc. in Greensboro where he served as President until he retired in 1988.
He was a member of Sedgefield Country Club for 50 years and a founding member of the Greensboro City Club.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Ruedemann Beaumont; his son, Ralph H. Beaumont, III and wife Ann Dart of Portland, OR; son, Jeffrey William Beaumont of Manhatten Beach, CA; daughter, Judith May Beaumont of FL; son, Edward Ruedemann Beaumont and wife Melissa Hudson of Robinson, TX; son, Robert Haring Beaumont and wife Rima Jarrah of Greensboro, NC and daughter, Blair Beaumont Kopf and husband Kenneth of Greensboro, NC. Ralph is also survived by his grandchildren, Catherine Beaumont, Sarah Beaumont, Clara Dart Beaumont, Georgette Elizabeth Beaumont, and Robert Jarrah Beaumont and also is survived by his brother, Donald Lane Beaumont.
The family would like to thank Dr. Norins and the staff of Wesley Long Hospital.
A private family service and internment will be performed by Reverend Warren Pittman of All Saints Episcopal Church, Greensboro, NC
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Ralph’s memory to the Humane Society of the Piedmont, 4527 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27409 or Colgate University.
