

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Randy will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Beckley, West Virginia. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the funeral, from 1:00 p.m. until service time, at the funeral home.
Born on December 11, 1957, in Summersville, West Virginia, to the late Harold and Blanche Dempsey, Randy was of the Baptist faith. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, in Beckley, West Virginia, in 1976 and played the trumpet in the high school band. Randy then went on to receive his associate’s degree from Mountain State University. He worked as a Welder, Fabricator and Certified Welding Inspector, for 20 years. Randy and his family relocated to North Carolina, and he went to work for the NCDOT for 20 years. After retiring, he returned to working part-time for the NCDOT Traffic Department as an Engineering Tech Specialist. Randy was a lifelong learner that loved helping and teaching others. He enjoyed home improvement projects and as a master griller, he always looked forward to entertaining and feeding his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Dempsey; a sister-in-law, Sharon Dempsey; and a nephew, Robert Duguid.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 36 years, Amy Dempsey; daughters, Hannah Dempsey Chavez (Mike) and Rachael Dempsey Greene (Kyle); 2 grandsons, Leo and Joey Greene; brother, Richard Dempsey (Caroline); sisters, Vonna “Sis” McVey (Richard) and JoAnn Outten; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends.
