Growing up in Greensboro, N.C., he dedicated much of his life to the US Postal Service, working from 1956 until his retirement in 1991 as a Manager of Branch/Station Operations. He lived life on his own terms and maintained surprising health, often attributing his longevity to the saying, “a bourbon a day”.
Golf was his true passion. An “Old School” golfer, he took the game seriously and loved sharing it with others, occasionally sponsoring up-and-coming talent. When he wasn’t on the course, he enjoyed relaxing under the shade of his trees, watching fellow golfers play.
He is survived by his children, Christie Pursley (husband, Keith) of Asheboro, Kelly Pegram of Greensboro, and Bonnie Ledbetter of Troutman, N.C.; his grandsons Matthew Pursley (wife, Sabrina) of Greensboro, and Jake Ledbetter (wife, Dani) of Blacklick, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, all under the age of 9: Hazel, Eleanor, Sybil, Theodore Pursley, and Olivia Ledbetter, along with her future baby brother or sister due in April 2025.
Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services of Greensboro is serving the family.
He will be deeply missed.
We love you, Dad (Grandpa)!
