

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 4:00 pm at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Charlie Zimmerman officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
Bob was born in Salisbury to the late James and Katie Smith Wilhelm. He attended Catawba College and worked as a postal worker with USPS for over thirty-five years. He served his country in the Merchant Marines as a Cadet. He was a member of First Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities including assistant to the Pastors and helped with managing the church facility. He was a part of the Stephen ministry and a member of the Thorburn Sunday school class. He was the owner of Bayne Oil Company, and retired in 1984. Bob enjoyed traveling, preparing taxes, being outdoors, and working on challenging projects.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Family was always Bob’s first priority. He never tired of helping his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Shirley Wilhelm; children, Robert Wayne Wilhelm (Evonne) of Gastonia, Deborah Wilhelm Crater (Tommy) of Greensboro, Michael Reed Wilhelm (“Ele”) of High Point; sisters, Frances Weant of Concord, Mary Katherine Plexico of Concord; brother, James Wilhelm of Salisbury; grandchildren, Gary, Ryan, Patrick, Lindsay, Melinda, Melody, Celina and Rebecca; five great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Katie.
