

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 11, 2012, at Immanuel Baptist Church on High Point Rd., with Rev. Jimmy Crews and Rev. Jack Benzenhafer officiating. Burial will follow at Comer’s Chapel Church Cemetery in Madison, NC.
Mr. Crews was born in Rockingham County, June 30, 1920, to the late Jesse and Almedia Crews. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Corporal during World War II. He was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served on the treasury committee and was an active member with the church’s Homebound Ministries. He retired from International Harvester after over 25 years of employment. He was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing golf. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be forever in our hearts. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne C. Crews and his second wife Hazel W. Crews; a daughter, Carol Schellenberg; a grandson, Brandon Gerringer, a granddaughter, Marci Goodman; and his five siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Annette Marshburn and her husband Jack of Virginia, Libby Arnette and her husband Ben of Greensboro, and Billie Sue Hicks and her husband Woody of Florida; six grandchildren, Robert Marshburn, Leslie Bates, Nick Gerringer, Candace Schellenberg, Kathy Arnette, and Morgan Smith; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday evening, May 10, 2012, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel and other times at Mr. Crews’ home.
