Dr. Robert “Bobby” Kriegsman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away at the age of 92. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, Bobby’s life was marked by devotion to his family, to his profession, and to the community he served with humility and skill.
Born and raised in Greensboro, Bobby graduated from Greensboro Senior High in 1951 and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Navy before pursuing his passion for dentistry. In 1960, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, beginning a career that would span decades and touch the lives of thousands.
Bobby married the love of his life, Rascha Sklut, with whom he shared 67 years of dedication, partnership, and adventure. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, intellectual curiosity, humor, and deep love.
A superb clinician and a natural teacher, Bobby was a mentor to generations of dentists in the Greensboro community. He was deeply committed to advancing local dental education, serving as a founding supporter of dental programs at Guilford Technical Community College and contributing to public health initiatives, including service on the Guilford County Board of Health. Later in life, he served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, where he shared his expertise and passion with students and colleagues.
Committed to strengthening the profession, Bobby served as president of the North Carolina Association of General Dentists and president of the Guilford County Dental Society, earning the respect of peers across the state.
Bobby’s impact extended far beyond Greensboro. Beginning in 1990, he volunteered with Health Volunteers Overseas, sharing his clinical knowledge, compassion, and gentle humor across multiple continents. He completed month-long assignments in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Moldova, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe, often accompanied by Rascha. In these communities, he not only cared for patients but also taught and mentored local dentists, helping to build sustainable, long-term improvements in oral health care.
Deeply rooted in Greensboro, Bobby stayed closely connected with the community through weekly meetings with the Greensboro Rotary Club and regular breakfasts with fellow Greensboro High alumni, where friendships were nurtured and memories revisited. A lifelong member of Temple Emanuel, he served on numerous committees throughout his life, contributing his time, values, and leadership to the congregation that shaped him.
He was instrumental in helping local Jewish dentists establish a dental service at the Blumenthal Home in Clemmons, ensuring that residents received dignified and attentive care. Bobby was honored throughout his career by many prestigious organizations, including the American Dental Association, the International College of Dentists, and the American College of Dentists. Colleagues fondly remember his lectures, which educated and inspired countless practitioners.
Bobby lived life with curiosity and joy. He was an avid golfer, a devoted sailor, an enthusiastic gardener, and an art collector and supporter of the arts community. In addition, he and Rascha are steadfast supporters of the Weatherspoon Art Museum at UNCG.
Memories of Bobby will be a blessing to all he touched. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rascha, his children Debra (Gerry) Goulder, Andrea (Jeff) Calhoun, and Franklin (Alana) Kriegsman, and his grandchildren Gavi, Nate and Ari Goulder, Celia (Christian) Arneson, Adam Calhoun, and Samantha, Izzy and Silvia Kriegsman, and siblings David (Jane) Kriegsman, Diana (Jimmy) Davis, sister-in-law Judy Kriegsman and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will forever carry forward his legacy of kindness, knowledge, and integrity.
