Retired Assemblies of God Pastor Russell Valentine Umphenour Senior, 91, left us peacefully on February 19th, 2016, when he was called home to be with the Lord. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Gooding, Idaho to Star and Sybil Umphenour, the second of eight children
He married Susie Irene Stock in 1943, who remained the love of his life for 63 years until her passing. Shortly after the wedding, he graduated from Glad Tidings Bible School, in San Francisco, and officially began his life in Ministry.
Together they pastored for over 50 years, in five towns across the state of Nebraska, in Idaho Falls, Idaho and finally in Fairfield, California before retiring to Greensboro, North Carolina.
Russell was predeceased by his wife and two sons, Harry and Dwight. He is survived by two sons, Russ and his wife Debra and Paul and his wife Gail. He is also survived by siblings, Maxine Umphenour, Cleo Slagel, Mary Slagel, Shirley Shown and Glen Umphenour; grandchildren, Rusty, Jami, Jason, Michael, Brain and five great grandchildren, Ariel, Autumn, Rider, Eavan and Matthew.
We will celebrate Russell’s life on March 19th, 1:00 pm at the Demaray Funeral Home in Gooding, Idaho. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, also in Gooding, Idaho.
