After spending a relaxing and beautiful Christmas with his family, Scott Lyle McKee, 64, died peacefully at home in his sleep on December 26, 2015. A service to celebrate and remember Scott will be at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel on December 31, at 2 PM with Pastor Joey Baynes officiating. His family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM prior to the service.
Scott was born in St. Louis, MO to the late Ralph Stuart and MaryAnn Churbuck McKee. They, along with Scott’s brother, Rick precede him in death. He was raised in East Wareham, MA and moved to Greensboro in the 1970’s. He married his best friend and soulmate, Judy Weddington in 1986 and together they raised two children. Scott was a “fixer” and a skillful maintenance supervisor with the US Postal Service from which he retired in 2001 with over 20 years of service. He was also quite proficient in repairing electronic items as well. Scott held a lifelong love and fascination with airplanes and was a long time member and past president of (GRAMS ) Greensboro Radio Aero Modelers Club. His friends and family will smile when they recall his hilarious sense of humor, quick one-liners and sarcastic comebacks. He was blessed with a soothing and beautiful baritone voice. With a never ceasing inquisitiveness Scott kept well informed on topics that were of interest to him or of importance to someone else who asked Scott for his input. He would often watch Webcams just for fun and liked to share his findings with others. Heather and David will remember that Scott was a loving and supportive Dad and Judy will cherish their time together at NASCAR races or enjoying ice hockey games. His grandchildren were delightful to him and his constant caretaker, 6 year old Walker, was his buddy.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judy, of the home; children and their spouses, Heather McKee and Kyle Cook and their son, Walker of Gibsonville and David and Celeste McKee and their children, Savannah, Gage, Madison, and Micah of Conroe, TX; brother, Ross McKee of East Wareham, MA; brother-in-law, John (Kristin) Weddington of Greensboro; sisters-in-law, Margo Lanning of Linwood and Pam Johnson of Greensboro; two nieces and two nephews.
