

Services will be held at the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro NC on Friday, September 28 at 11 AM and the family will visit with friends following the service in the Blair Hagan room of the church.
Scott served as editor of his high school newspaper, graduating from W.H. Page High School in Greensboro in 1980. He attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a B.A. in Journalism and Political Science. He had an avid interest in politics, public affairs, and sports, particularly collegiate basketball and football and playing golf. Scott applied his talent with words as a newspaper writer soon after college graduation and then in public affairs for nonprofit organizations such as the United Way and the American Red Cross in Charlotte, NC. Later experiences included retail and real estate sales. He was a congenial companion and entertaining conversationalist with a gentle soul who will be greatly missed.
Scott was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro NC. He is preceded in death by his father, Greensboro attorney Richard L. Wharton and survived by his mother Peggy W. Wharton of Greensboro NC, sister Emily Wharton Piercefield and her husband Doug of Egg Harbor City, NJ, aunt Doris Fant of Roanoke VA, cousins Marty Hartmann and Charlie Perkinson of Bent Mountain VA, Erich Hartmann and family of New York City, Marcy and Steve Fisk of Roanoke VA, Robert Wharton Darnell and family of Rockville MD, and Lynn Darnell Thompson of Greensboro NC.
