

Scott (Thomas Scott) Yokum, age 53, of Greensboro, North Carolina, died on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at The Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, with his wife and son by his side, following a very brief illness.
Scott was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on May 1, 1970, to Thomas C. and Karen M. Yokum, of Monongah, West Virginia, who survive. Scott is also survived by his wife of 28 years, Paula France Yokum, and their son, Bradley Thomas Yokum, of Greensboro, North Carolina. He is also survived by is father in law and mother in law, William and Mary Louise France, of Washington, Pennsylvania, and brother in law, Jason France of Houston, Pennsylvania. In addition he is survived by his grandfather, Marion L. (Joe) Mathews, of Fairmont, West Virginia, and uncle and aunt, John and Judith Minear of Belington, West Virginia. Additional family members surviving are Charles and Trudy Anderson, James “Huley” Hardesty, and many cousins. Scott leaves also his best friend, Bradley Bane and his wife Danielle and daughter Emma, of Charleston, South Carolina.
Scott graduated from North Marion High School in 1988 where he participated in various sports, being a three sport letterman his senior year. He graduated from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, where he played football. Scott continued his education at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he earned a doctorate degree in organic chemistry. Following graduation, he completed a two year post doctoral study at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Scott was employed by Cambrex Corporation in High Point, North Carolina, where he served as Associate Director of Chemical Research and Development.
Scott was a very passionate sports fan, particularly LSU football and his son’s wrestling. He also enjoyed rounds of golf especially with his friend, Brad. His wit and passion will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family has chosen cremation and arrangements are being handled by the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro. He will be inurned in the Guilford Mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park. A family service will be held at a later date.
