Shirley Shelton Hester

Shirley Ann Shelton Hester, age 88, of Jamestown, North Carolina passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024.Shirley was born on December 30, 1935 in Eden, North Carolina, the daughter of Carroll and Ila Shelton.She was a graduate of Morehead High School and went on to have a successful career as a secretary. Shirley then became a devoted stay-at home mom and homemaker, and nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family. Anyone who knew her will remember her generous heart, hardworking nature, and upbeat personality. Shirley’s smile could lift anyone’s spirits, and her faith in Jesus was inspiring to all. Some of her favorite hobbies included tending to her beautiful flowers, cooking for her loved ones, reading, collecting dolls, and doing puzzles. Her infectious smile and caring nature will be deeply missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Aaron “Hess” Hester, her son, Donald “Donny” Grogan, her brothers, Wallace, Mack, and Marvin Shelton, and her sisters, Dixie Gregory, Beatrice Shelton, and Vivian Shelton.

Her survivors include her children, Raymond Grogan of St. Augustine, FL, Steve Grogan (Jenna) of Randleman, and Lisa Spiker (Rich) of Oak Ridge; sister Nellie Carter (Richard) of Greensboro; grandchildren Ray Grogan (Jessie) of Niceville, FL, Jared Grogan (Julene) of Omaha, NE, Sarah Dorr (Kyle) of Greensboro, and Catherine Spiker of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Alyssa, Wyatt, and Maia Grogan; and her loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel officiated by Pastor Mike Carr. Visitation will be one hour prior to service with Interment following in Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
