Loving husband, supportive father, dedicated brother and friend, Sidney Bryan Jeffreys, Jr., 76, was reunited with his parents and welcomed into Heaven on September 4, 2018. He passed away at Whitestone Community after declining health and complications of a stroke.
A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 PM, Friday, September 7, at First Presbyterian Church officiated by Reverend Dolly Jacobs followed by visitation in the Virginia Gilmer Room. Interment will take place at 12:30 PM prior to the service at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Bryan was born in Raleigh to the late Sidney Bryan and Angie Turner Jeffreys. He attended Greensboro Senior High School then, transferred to, Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA, where he graduated in 1961. He graduated from College of Wooster, Wooster OH in 1965 and received his Master’s Degree in Education in Social Studies from UNC-G. He had an extensive teaching career at Fork Union Military Academy in VA and Greensboro Day School. Bryan’s charismatic personality served him well in the classroom and also in a business forum. After teaching he launched a successful career as a co-owner of Crescent Industries in Greensboro, Executive Director of International Home Furnishings Representative Association and Sales and Design Consultant at Furnitureland South. Bryan had a strong foundation in his faith in Jesus Christ and worshipped since the 1960’s at First Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon and inactive elder. He was a long time member of Summit Rotary Club and recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.
His keen sense of humor and appreciation of puns and corny jokes endeared Bryan to his students, business associates and friends. He aspired make sure other people felt valued and respected and was particularly devoted to his parents and others of their generation. After his mother’s death he introduced his father to Gwen Powell who became his step-mother. Although he traveled frequently on business his wife of 43 years and his two daughters were always close in his thoughts and conversations with others. Bryan loved cars, especially convertibles, and was a self -taught needle pointer. During the holidays he was most content surrounded by big crowds of family and friends and enjoyed hosting dinner parties. The beach and the mountains were two of his favorite destinations with his family and his canine companions, Trevor, Tessa and Sugar.
Bryan in survived by his devoted wife, Margaret “Marti” Pickett Jeffreys of the home, his two daughters of whom he was immensely proud, Margaret–Ellen Jeffreys Christensen and husband Thom of New York and Angie Jeffreys Schomp and husband Josh of Greensboro; brother, Morris T. Jeffreys and wife Debbie, step brother, James M. Powell, step sister, Fran P. Harold and husband Graham, step mother, Gwen Powell Jeffreys, nephews, Morris T. Jeffreys, Jr. and wife Robin, and Charles B. Jeffreys, great nephew, Matthew T. Jeffreys, great niece, Katelyn L. Jeffreys, and his beloved fur babies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Carole B. Jeffreys and grandparents, Sidney B. and Miriam Jeffreys and James A. and Lorana T. Turner.
