Stephen Edward Elmore Jr.

A funeral service, celebrating his life, will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Christ United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Elmore was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where he served as an Usher and Treasurer of the Asbury Sunday School Class. Born in Suffolk, Virginia, Mr. Elmore was Valedictorian of Perquimans County High School in Hertford, North Carolina. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for which he served as Assistant Class Agent.

Steve retired from Burlington Industries/Kayser Roth Corporation, as Financial Accounting Manager with 46 years of service. He was a member of The Hamilton Lakes Civitan Club, Col. John Sloan Camp Sons of the Confederate Veterans, and the UNC-Chapel Hill Alumni Association. During retirement, Steve enjoyed reading, history, and genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Vale Borum Elmore; a brother, Lt. Col. Ernest C. Elmore; sister, Nancy Lee Elmore; and his parents, Stephen Edward Elmore, Sr., and Delia Lee Hedgepeth Elmore.

Surviving are his devoted daughters, Kathianne Elmore Bond and her husband Barry, and Margaret Elmore Johnson and her husband Pat; one grandchild, Matthew Bond, all of Greensboro; brother, Emmett C. Elmore of Hertford, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Wednesday evening, March 2, 2011, at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel.
