Steven William Allen, 73, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, October 10, 2025. He was born in Greensboro on February 6, 1952, the son of the late Joseph Edward Allen, III and Lucy Ann Cheek Allen.
Steve graduated from Smith High School in 1970. He spent many years with Koury Corporation before turning his passion and work ethic into his own landscaping business, where he was known for transforming yards with care and skill. He owned and operated the business until his retirement.
He loved classic rock, storytelling, weather reports, Carolina basketball, Stamey’s BBQ, and being fully present with the people around him. Above all, Steve loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Judy “Leah” Rogers Allen, who preceded him in death in 2017, and a proud and loving father and grandfather. Steve was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2013.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Allen and wife Laurie of Greensboro; his daughter, Michelle Conrad of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; sisters Ann Venable and Betsy Sims and husband Chuck of Greensboro; six grandchildren, James Huff, Jasmine Huff, Emma Allen, Joe Allen, Emily Huff, and Lily Allen; and a great-grandson, Luca. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adopted daughter Nancy, his brother Joseph “Jody” Edward Allen, IV, and his beloved wife Leah.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel with Ben Hunter, III, Elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Steve will be remembered for his big heart, authenticity, resilience, and the way he made everyone feel like a friend. He loved deeply, his wife, his family, his friends, and his community, and he lived his life as a faith-filled Christian who looked forward to reuniting with those who went before him.
