Temple Griffith Green

The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am, on Saturday, February 18th at Peace United Church of Christ at 2714 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC.

Temple was born on December 10, 1929 in Pulaski, Virginia to the late Charles and Kitty Griffith. She was preceded in death by her sister Jeanette and husband, Leonard Green.

Survivors include five loving daughters Leslie, Donna, Kelly, Lenne and Charlotte. Surviving sons-in-law are Jeff Smith of Cary, NC, Dr. Gary Bowen of Cary, NC, Dr. Michael Barri of Wilmington, NC and Greg Beck of Mooresville, NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Dr. Jeffrey Smith of Sumter, SC; Kelly and husband Peter Jones of Arlington, VA; Christopher Bowen of Chapel Hill, NC; Natalie and husband Dr. Robert Peterson of Chapel Hill, NC; John and Eva Barri of Wilmington, NC; Jake Chesnick of Apex, NC; Hunter and Sam Beck of Mooresville, NC.

Surviving great grandchildren include Cameron, Susannah, Charlotte and Wyatt Peterson of Chapel Hill, NC; Kemp and Grayson Smith of Sumter, SC; Quinn and Spencer Jones of Arlington, VA.

She is also survived by her loving and supportive in-laws, Kenneth “Red” Greene and wife Shirley of Charlotte, NC. Surviving nieces are Vicky Jorgenson, Rebecca Fennewald and nephew Paul Greene.

Following high school graduation in Reidsville, NC she attended UNC-Greensboro and later transferred to Appalachian State University where she received a BS in education in 1951. Her teaching career spanned 25 years in NC which concluded at Ben L. Smith High School where she taught for 14 years. She was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed women’s fellowship many years. Temple was passionate about travel and music and had the opportunity to live in Europe for four years while her husband was employed by the Department of Defense Dependent Schools – Europe. Her trip to Israel to celebrate her lifetime of faith was her most treasured travel experience. As her friends and family well know, she had a tremendous love for the piano which she lovingly shared with her children and grandchildren.
