On Friday, July 15, 2016, Gale Phillips went to join family and friends who have passed on before her. She leaves behind her loving husband of 48 years, Donnie Ray Phillips; two sons, Andy (Michelle) and Ben (Jenny); sister, Ann Kirkman; grandchildren, Hayley, Kendall, Kylie, Meagan, Mariah, and Connor; great granddaughter, Elliana; nephew, Charlie Kirkman; and her beloved pups, McGee and McGyver.
The family will celebrate her life at 11 AM at Rocky Knoll Baptist Church on Thursday, July 21 followed by interment at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 20, from 6 to 9 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel.
Gale was a talented person, both at home and at work. Her home and gardens reflected her good taste in how she wanted her home and she could make anything grow. One of her greatest pleasures was working in her flower and vegetable gardens.
At work she had been supervisor of the Ribbon Department at Moss-Bow Dog Shows, where she created special ribbons for dog shows all over the country. Her work was most notably seen on television at The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Kennel clubs often requested she design special projects and she never disappointed them.
Gale loved to travel, especially to the beach, but often gave in to Donnie’s love of the mountains. They would get in the car and go looking for adventure, as when they visited all the NC light houses in one week. Once they wound up in Pittsburgh for one of their most delightful vacations ever. Pigeon Forge was a favorite and Gale was kind enough to take Donnie’s mother, Clara, for her annual reunion with her sisters. Gale’s devotion to both her and Donnie’s parents was well noted as was her compassion for both the elderly and children.
Gale was athletic until her health began to fail. She was on every team in which girls were allowed to participate in high school at South East Guilford, but mostly basketball, where she excelled. Later the family, including her Dad, Andrew Faucette made up a formidable bowling team on several leagues at Triad Lanes for many years. Gale bowled on both mixed and women’s leagues with equal success.
Even in later years, with her health declining, Gale excelled in what she did. She was asked to speak on her success with home dialysis at a state seminar for the Kidney Foundation. Her advisors at the kidney center said her home treatment set up could be a model for other patients.
Going on before her and awaiting her arrival in Heaven were her parents, Andrew J. and Virginia Johnson Faucette; beloved mother-in-law, Clara Marie Phillips Johnson; father-in-law, Richard H. Phillips; nephew, Jeffrey Lyn Kirkman; and grandparents, Charlie and Maggie Johnson. Gale will be forever missed by her friends and former co-workers.
