She is survived by James T. Williams (Barbara) of Greensboro, John Williams (Melanie) of St. Augustine, John Vaughan (Pat) of Albuquerque, and many extended family.
After attending Roanoke College, she married Rush, a naval submarine officer during World War II. They made their home in Los Angeles (Palos Verdes) loving life in sunny California amidst the “stars”, the Hollywood Bowl, the Rose Parade, and the theatre. But, their real passion was the rescue and care of lost or abandoned animals adopting many themselves.
After Rush’s death, Carlene retired as a Vice President from Wells Fargo and returned east to Greensboro to be closer to her family. She surprised herself at how much she enjoyed this area and meeting so many interesting people at Well-Spring. Carlene’s kindness and warm smile for everyone was as steadfast as her incredible love and concern for animals.
The family particularly wants to thank Bonnie McNeill and her daughter Christie and grandson Michael for being such an important part of Carlene’s life, showing her immeasurable friendship, love and concern. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff (especially rehab) at Well-Spring for their care and devotion to Carlene.
A private family graveside service is planned at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.
