Virginia Robbins, known affectionately to all as “Gigi”, entered God’s Kingdom in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 22, 2023, barely two days after her 68th birthday. Born June 20,1955 in Brooklyn, New York to Frederick and Virginia Dietz, Gigi grew up in Paramus, New Jersey, and had lived in Greensboro, NC since 1992.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, the center of Gigi’s universe was her three-year-old twin grandchildren, Anna and James. Mommom, as she was adoringly called, filled her final years as one of their primary caregivers. She picked them up from school, baked with them, played make-believe, and loved having what Anna and James referred to as pajama parties at her house.
“Tight-knit family” hardly describes what Gigi shared with her husband of forty-seven years Jim or “Jimmy” Robbins, and daughter, Kelly, her best friend. Gigi adored her husband and, contrary to popular belief, really did find him as funny as others do. They were a true team and moved from New Jersey to South Carolina and eventually settling in Greensboro, sharing a journey that only tightened their unbreakable bond.
Gigi was a natural caretaker and opened her heart, arms, and home to everyone. There were few things she enjoyed more than hosting others in her home – whether it was for a fun dinner party or overnight guests. She was an avid tennis player for much of her life and took up mahjong in her recent years. She was hilarious, kind, generous, and full of love. The one thing everyone always knew is that she would do absolutely anything for those she loved. Gigi will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate to have known her.
She is survived by the great love of her life, her husband, James Franklyn Robbins and daughter, Kelly Robbins Reeves (Dan) of Greensboro and their children, Anna and James Reeves, her sister, Barbara Castiglione (Bill) of NJ and her brother, Frederick Dietz of Wilmington, NC. In addition to that are all of her brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews all of which meant the world to her.
A visitation will be held Monday, June 26th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401.
A funeral mass will take place Tuesday, June 27 at 11:00 am at Saint Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27408.
