After many years of battling debilitating cancer her beautiful body and soul are completely restored. Viveca Charisse Caldwell Hodge-Webster, 67, of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, died on February 26, 2019 at the home of her devoted son and caregiver, Jamel Hodge, who resides in Greensboro, NC. Prior to coming to NC she was also lovingly cared for by her two children Katrina and Curtis Hodge in NYC. The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM, March 13 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel followed by a celebration of her life at 1 PM.
Viveca was born in Harlem, New York City, the middle child of the late Willis and Lillia Grant Caldwell. She studied at the High School for the Humanities, and during her time in school was raised by her grandmother, Daisy Jarrett, who they called “Mother”. Her career with the US Postal Service began when she was offered a “90 day casual” position and after displaying a determined work ethic and will to succeed was honored when offered another “90 day casual”. Viveca accepted a full time position in 1969 and retired from the US Postal Service with more than 40 years of service. She participated on the soft ball team and also enjoyed bowling, averaging a 180 to 240 score.
Viveca will be remembered for her kind and loving generosity and her strength and independence especially in the face of adversity. She was a wonderful mother to her three children and whose well being was her first priority. Before her health declined she loved to travel, sew and was the family video and picture expert. Her greatest joy was expressing her love through gift giving. Viveca began to travel to NYC and NC from St. Thomas approximately 3 years ago to receive medical treatment after back to back tropical storms/ hurricanes ravaged BVI and the care she needed was not readily available. It was her faith in Christ and her love for her family in the US and US Virgin Islands that sustained her.
Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Clalwyn E. “Sam” Webster of St. Thomas, VI; her children, Curtis of NYC, Jamel of Greensboro and Katrina of NYC; former daughter-in-law, Melissa Hodge; grandchildren, Mel-Quann Hodge, Ka-Mya Thomas, Bryan Thomas, Brandon Thomas, Damian Simmons, D’Andre J. Hodge, Mia C. Hodge, and Jamari A. Hodge; great grandchildren, Michael, Giana, Gia, and Madison Hodge; brother, Victor Caldwell of Staten Island, NY and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Caldwell.
