Greensboro: On June 1, 2013 William McCauley "Cauley" Skeen entered into heaven. He was born on March 13, 2013 and only lived 80 days but each one was a blessing. Cauley suffered from Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy, an incurable and progressive seizure disorder.
Despite Cauley's difficulties, he had an uncanny ability to bring a smile to the faces of those who knew him. His sister, Grier, giggled each time she kissed his toes. His father, David, chuckled at his hairy, old man ears. His mother, Mackenzie, laughed at his perfect little button nose. He was a beautiful baby boy. He died in his parents' arms - fully loved and completely at peace.
Cauley is also survived by his maternal grandparents, DeeDee and Bob Merritt of Vero Beach, FL; his paternal grandparents, Lucy and David Skeen, Sr of Baltimore, MD; aunts and uncles Meghan Merritt of New York, NY, DeeDee Merritt of Charlotte, NC, Talli and Geoff Oxnam of Easton, MD, Marietta Skeen of Boston, MA, Beau Merritt of Washington, DC and Roy and Liz Skeen of Baltimore, MD; cousins Charlotte Oxnam, Nicholas Oxnam, and River Skeen.
Cauley was cared for by wonderful doctors and nurses at UNC Children's Hospital. They were professional and caring; demonstrating the best kind of pediatric patient care. The Skeens would like to thank the PICU team for their tender touch.
The family has decided to have a small, private service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made in Cauley's name to Reelin' for Research, Reelin’ for Research, 1852 Banking Street #9333, Greensboro, NC 27408
