

John Scott Vail, 88, of Greensburg, passed away on February 8, 2026. He was born on February 4, 1938, the son of Elbert and Margaret (Scott) Vail. He married Mary Artmeier on March 16, 1962 and together they had three children, Melinda, Trisha and Brian.
John was a 1956 graduate of Clarksburg High School and later earned an associate degree from IBM Technology Trade School. Over the years, he worked for Union Bank and Trust and Gecom, owned and operated Ace Technology, and served as the Clarksburg Postmaster until his retirement.
He was actively involved in his community and the Clarksburg Christian Church, he served as Commander of AMVETS and as a member of the Clarksburg Masonic Lodge. John also enjoyed bowling on Tuesdays with his friends, a tradition he cherished.
Survivors include his children, Melinda (Dean) Bennett, Trisha (Ed) Zobel, and Brian (Shawn) Vail; grandchildren, Kyle (Alyssa) Lusk, Eric (Mandy) Lusk, Katie (Austin) Schultz, Brooklynn (Luke) Lozier, Rosetta (Jake) Hawthorne, Megan (Chris) McGrew, Bayley (Noah) Allen, Lucas (Samantha) Zobel, Sierra Vail (Tristan), Taylor Vail, Dalton Vail, and Paityn Vail; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lucille Bartholick, Eugene Bartholick, and Bobby Bartholick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his stepbrother, Donny Vail.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Clarksburg Christian Church on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Jerran Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Clarksburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Clarksburg Christian Church.
