John Zandstra, 84, of Greensburg, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018. John was born May 22, 1934 in Hazerswoude-Dorp, South Holland, Netherlands. He was the son of Linze Johannes and Plonia (Van Vliet) Zandstra. John was a United States Army Veteran and also served in the Holland Military Services. On July 19, 1961, he married Thelma Sprik, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter - Lisa (Milo) Tichenor of Westport; three sons - Randall Zandstra of Colorado, Douglas (Lisa) Zandstra of Tulsa, OK and Hans (Teresa) Zandstra of Tulsa, OK; one sister - Jitske (Nick) DeGelder of Holland; one brother, Abram (Bea) Zandstra; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Sari Brands and one brother Atze Zandstra.
John was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg for 22 years and was active in Gideon’s International. John worked as a landscaper/ nurseryman for more than 40 years, at one point owning his own business. He enjoyed painting, fishing and traveling around to flea markets. John also spent many years doing local Jail Ministries.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 10:30 am, with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating.
