Maxine Pleak Hayes

Maxine Pleak Hayes, 87, of Greensburg, passed away on June 20, 2018 at Morning Breeze. She was born on August 6, 1930 in Decatur County, the daughter of Cecil and Opal (Allen) Pleak. Maxine was a 1948 graduate of Greensburg High School. She worked at GE Wellman in Shelbyville for 31 years as a purchasing clerk. On November 14, 1950, she married L. Don Hayes at Mt. Aerie Baptist Church and he preceded her in death in 2000. Although Maxine never had any children of her own, she made a tremendous impact on so many lives. She inspired her close friends, loved ones, neighbors, caregivers and church family with her positive attitude, sense of humor, infectious laugh and strength of character. Although she lost her vision in her later years, she had unwavering faith in God and looked forward to regaining her eyesight in Heaven. She was commended as a "True Pillar" of Star Baptist Church having served as Trustee, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher and Baptist Youth Fellowship Leader. She loved animals, gardening, farming and music. She entertained countless admirers with her unique skill of playing the musical saw when travelling around Indiana to the antique tractor shows with her husband and dear friends. She was a member of the Clinton Extension Homemakers Club, and Moderator Lois Chapter #147 - Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a Past Matron. A visitation will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Star Baptist Church, 4019 West County Road 650 North, St. Paul, Indiana 47272, Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11:00 am. Rev. Tom True will be officiating.
