Phyllis Jean Chitwood, 89 of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. Phyllis was born on April 23, 1925 in Sharpsville, Indiana, the daughter of Park and Marjorie Snyder. On May 9, 1946, she married Kenneth Chitwood in Kalamazoo, Michigan; they were married for 53 years, until his death on January 11, 2000.
Phyllis spent most of her life raising and caring for her family. She attended the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, and loved anything that had to do with the outdoors. Her favorite past times were golfing and watching Norte Dame Football.
Survivors include two daughters – Lisa Chitwood of Indianapolis and Chris (Paul) Flohr of Lafayette, CO, one son Steve (Vicci) Chitwood of Indianapolis, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 11AM until the start of the funeral service 1PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
