
at Brookdale assisted living. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Helen will always
be remembered for her kind and humble approach to life and family.
Born on January 27, 1942 in New Madison, Ohio, Helen grew up the oldest daughter of
Max and Alice Carothers, and was sister to Judy, Marvin and Maxine. She graduated
from Tri-Village H.S. in 1960 and went on to attend Wright State and Eastern Kentucky
University where she received a Master’s degree.
Helen committed her career to helping others grow their knowledge and understanding.
She began as a 5 th grade English teacher and later went on to become Chief librarian at
the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Helen was a devoted wife to James Glenn Helton, married 16 May, 1969. They settled
in Dayton, Ohio to pursue enjoying their youth and raising a family. Later they moved to
a farm, retired and enjoyed gardening, evening walks, and spending time with friends
and neighbors.
She is survived by her two sons (John and James), daughter in-law (Erica), two
grandchildren (Noah and Natalie), brother (Marvin) and sister (Maxine).
Helen will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 4 at Ft. Jefferson Cemetery. A short
graveside service will be held for the family. Memorial donations can be made to Care
360 Hospice in lieu of flowers.
