Jonathan David Hilbun, Sr., born in Loranger, Louisiana, to Everett Watson, Sr. and Angie Christene Lea Hilbun on March 23, 1953, passed peacefully from mortality into the arms of immortality on June 1, 2024, in his home. He was united in marriage to his wife of 50 years, Tavel Delores Myrick, on May 24, 1974. They resided in Ontario, California, in the years preceding his death. Preceding him in death are his parents, as well as four brothers: Gerald, EW, Jr., Richard, and Wayne Hilbun. He is survived by his wife, Tavel Myrick Hilbun; one brother, Paul Hilbun; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia & Michael Kerby; sons and daughters-in-law: Jonathan Wayne, James Nathan & Brandi, David Lea, Christopher Gene & Crystal, Jonathan David, Jr. & Dana; grandchildren: Lyndon, Desiree, Dee & Rhoda, Destinee, Jada, Heather, D'Anna, Christina, Caleb, Sheyla, Jael, Madyson, Calah, Rebecca, Jason, Luke, Joshua, Philip and Bella; and also eight great-grandchildren. In his younger years, David (as he was called) served his local community at the Baton Rouge Fire Department for 15 years. He was skilled in many trades, including roofing, drywalling, electrical, painting, auto mechanics, farming, and many others. He also worked as a safety and storm water inspector at Pacific Hydrotech Corporation for over 10 years, until the time of his death. In the early years of Restoration, Bro. Hilbun, Sr. traveled extensively, assisting in the work of the Church. He will be remembered as being very generous, giving of his time and means to help others. He carried a burden for his sons, often praying aloud for each one of them by name. Believing strongly in the power of prayer, his faith was unwavering. Even in the face of death, his trust remained fixed in the Lord rather than the hands of man. He had an innate sense of humor. Even in the last few days of his life, he was cracking family jokes. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.
