Stephen D. Varvel

Stephen D. Varvel, age 71, of Greenville passed away at 4:00 am Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton.

Stephen was born on March 15, 1954, in Dayton to the late Harry J. & June C. (Stephens) Varvel. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, David Varvel, and Thomas Varvel; sister, Sharon Adams; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth “Red” Adams, Don Comer, and Craig Allread.

Stephen is survived by his daughters, Candy J. Varvel, and Stephanie D. Varvel; grandchildren, Rileigh, Hayden, Mona, Mia, Evan, Wyatt, and Saige; sisters, Connie Allread, and Sandy Comer; sister-in-law, Janice Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephen was a 1973 graduate of Greenville High School. Stephen retired from the City of Greenville. He was a member of the VFW and Moose in Greenville. Stephen collected antiques and Pepsi Products. He enjoyed motorcycles, cars, and loved dogs. He will be loved and missed.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2025, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
