Ann B Legrand

Ann graduated from Paris High School in Greenville, South Carolina in May 1958. True to her kind and social nature, she was voted Miss Congeniality by her classmates. She started off her college career at Limestone University but transferred to Furman University after meeting and falling in love with Spencer LeGrand, who attended Furman. Ann and Spencer married on August 5, 1961, and Ann graduated from Furman the following year with a degree in history.

She took her first teaching position in 1964 at Oxford Elementary in Claremont, North Carolina. In the mid-1970s, she worked with the Department of Social Services in Marshall North Carolina and continued to work with the DSS for two years after moving to Greenville, South Carolina. Ann later renewed her teaching certificate, returned to school, and received her Master’s degree in Special Education from Furman University in 1991. She continued to teach at Hillcrest High School until 2003. In addition to her career teaching and helping others, she also took great pride in her role as a pastor’s wife, investing her time and energy into supporting their church communities. Ann was known as an exemplary and steadfast friend, a loving wife, and an attentive and caring mother and grandmother.

Ann is survived by her two children, Kellie Ann LeGrand and Thomas Spencer LeGrand, Jr.; their spouses, Michael Carney and Tracy LeGrand; her five grandchildren, Thomas Spencer LeGrand III, Georgia LeGrand-Carney, Abigail LeGrand, Mekdes LeGrand-Carney, and Miki LeGrand-Carney; and two sisters, Barbara Brasington and Nancy Whitehurst. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Spencer LeGrand, Sr.

A visitation for Ann will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations, 311 Century Dr, Greenville, SC 29607. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Pelham Road Baptist Church, 1108 Pelham Rd, Greenville, SC 29601. A committal service will occur Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC 29601.
