

Born in the Panama Canal Zone, Cardy was the eldest daughter of Captain Richard Kenna Gaines and Maud Werner Gaines. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in New York.
In 1960, she married Dana Sullivan. The couple lived for several years in New York before relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota. While living in Minnesota, both Dana and Cardy made professions of faith in Jesus Christ, a commitment that shaped the remainder of their lives.
In 1978, Cardy and Dana moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where they became active members of Southside Baptist Church and, in later years, Heritage Bible Church.
Cardy was a dedicated volunteer with the Ombudsman Program, serving as a friendly visitor and advocate for residents in retirement and nursing homes.
At Rollingreen Village, Cardy embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying singing in the chorale, playing ping-pong, attending swimming classes, and line dancing. She was known for her warmth, friendliness, and joyful participation in community life.
Cardy’s lifelong love of the piano was central to her life, and she treasured every opportunity to share her music with those around her.
Cardy is survived by her children Irene (Tom) Harding, Peter (Debbie) Sullivan, and Gaye (Jonnie) Burch; her sister Anna Lou Wren; 16 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter Louise Gentry; son Hugh Donovan; grandson Grant Harding; brother Richard Gaines; and sister Maud Tarrant.
A memorial service for Cardy will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC 29609 on Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Cardy’s family rejoices in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully trusted and served throughout her life.
