Dr. Charles H. Thorne Jr.

Dr. Charles H. Thorne, Jr., 84 of Taylors, SC passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Ruth "Gammie" Neimann Thorne. Charles retired as Chief of Dental Services with the VA Clinic in Greenville, SC. He was a Captain in the US Army and worked in the Pentagon from 1955-1959. Charles was predeceased by his wife Shirley. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and loved leatherwork and bowling. He loved to dance especially "Shag" and was a dance instructor, and with his wife they danced in the movie "Dirty Dancing". He is survived by three sons: Charles W. Thorne (Michelle) of Minneapolis, MN, James E. Thorne (Janice) of Charleston, SC, and John M. Thorne of Taylors; two sisters: Muriel M. Thorne of Washington, DC and Doris M. Williams; four grandchildren: Timothy James Thorne, Christian Anne Thorne, James Edward Thorne, Jr., Shannon Markley (Dave); four great-grandchildren: Kyle Zachary Lefel, Ashlyn Jean Markley, Megan Paige Markley, and Carson David Markley; a great-niece: Janet Andy of Kent, OH. He was also predeceased by a grandchild: Sean Patrick Thorne. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with visitation from 4:00 - 6:00 pm in the funeral home.
