Cynthia Brassell Pitts passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, May 26, 2019. She was born July 2, 1940 to Alan Thomas Brassell and Mary Annie Spear Bynum in Columbus GA. Cynthia attended Auburn University where she studied business, and also Furman University after she eloped and married her longtime friend and love, Charles, 59 years ago.
After raising her daughters, Cynthia was certified as a professional secretary and worked as an executive assistant in the food and transportation industries. Cynthia served her community as the Wellington Green Community Club president and as a Girl Scout Leader. She participated in Meals on Wheels and often took her daughters along, setting an example of service that they would never forget.
Cynthia enjoyed history and travel, especially traveling to southern England to visit the places where her ancestors came from. She loved college football and transferred her loyalties from Auburn to Clemson after her daughters attended the university. She and Charles became master tailgaters and gave their family and friends many years of wonderful Saturday memories.
Cynthia is survived by her husband, Charles Booth Pitts; daughters: Amy Botkin (Alan) and Sheryl Mayberry; grandchildren: Andy Botkin, Miles Mayberry, Sloane Mayberry, and Caroline Mayberry, and great granddaughter, Charlie Stephens.
She is also survived by sisters: Wylene Danielson and Eloise Stevenson. She was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Brassell.
A service celebrating Cynthia’s life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 30 and the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 AM at The Mackey Mortuary - 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. Please plan to stay for lunch in the Community Room. Followed by a private burial.
Cynthia’s family would like to thank Dr. Fredy Revilla for his care during her Parkinson’s illness and the caregivers at Synergy HomeCare for their devoted attention during her battle with cancer.
