He went to South Point High School in Belmont, NC. One day after school he went to his best friend, Bill’s house where he met Bill’s older sister Elaine. He always said that from the moment he saw her he thought she was the most beautiful girl he ever met and she was always the love of his life. Eventually, he got around to telling her about it, and they would have celebrated their 25th anniversary this October. They had one daughter, Lindsay, who along with his wife was the center of his world
David had proudly served in the US Army in the 64th Tank Battalion assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division.
Later he worked in the Funeral Industry as a Transportation Specialist serving families at Mackey Funerals and Cremations, Greenville SC as well as the Pickens County Coroner. He considered it an honor and a service to the community to be able to serve families during some of their times of greatest tragedy by treating the decedents with the utmost dignity and the grieving families with empathy, compassion, and respect regardless of circumstance.
Eventually, he embarked on the most important job of his life, when he became a full-time stay-at-home Father to Lindsay. It was the greatest gift he could have given her, and despite the incredible challenges, he loved every day that they got to spend together.
David was an avid amateur historian, particularly interested in military history. He loved animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed video games, music, and was a talented artist. He thanked God each and every day for all of his blessings, the two most important being his beloved wife and his daughter.
David was a gentle soul, an amazing father, and the most loving husband who deserved so much more time. When other people experienced sorrow, he gave the best hugs and always knew the right thing to say to provide the comfort that was needed with sincerity and compassion. He made the world a better place for having been in it. It is unfortunate that he never realized how very appreciated he was and how many lives he touched. His legacy is one of love and kindness to others. His greatest wish was that family should remain close and support each other and that we should never fail to tell those we love how we feel because we never know how much time we have and should never have to regret later not telling our loved ones how very much they mean to us.
A visitation for David will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, South Carolina 29609 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00PM in the Chapel at Mackey Funerals and Cremation at Woodlawn. A burial will occur following the Celebration of Life Service at Sloan Family Cemetery, 85 E. Sloan Rd, Piedmont, SC 29673.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lindsay Elaine Pruett Trust, 115 Beattie Park Rd, Piedmont SC 29673.
