Dorothy G. Brent, 88, known as Dot, wife of the late William Elliott Brent, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, surrounded by her daughters at her home in Taylors, South Carolina. She was born in Greenville, Mississippi, to P.B. Griffin and Bertha Mae Baumgartner.
Dot was retired from Kemet Electronics, Simpsonville, where she was a Contracts Administrator. She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. An avid gardener and an amazing cook, Dot passes these talents down to live on through her family. She loved art, reading, and all animals, especially her beloved dogs Sassy, Misha, and Lucky. Another favorite pastime that will continue as her legacy is the hosting of family gatherings so large it’s hard to get a word in edgewise. Mostly, her family will cherish Dot’s boundless love for her family and her lessons of that love for other people, for fighting for what is right, and for never ignoring social injustices.
Surviving are her five daughters: Ruth Mason McElvain of Taylors, South Carolina, Kathy Mason Bankston of Taylors, South Carolina, Lisa Mauldin Rehm (husband Jeff) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Dawn Mauldin Brailsford (husband John) of Taylors, South Carolina, and Heather Brent (husband Jamie Wallace) of Charlotte, North Carolina, two stepdaughters: Connie Brogdon (husband Chris) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brenda Martin of Jacksonville, Florida; four siblings: George Barfield, Ethel Mae Hunter, Becky Nickerson, and Will Barfield; nine grandchildren: Ryan McElvain, Christopher McElvain, Brook McElvain, Mira Bankston, Megan O’Brien, Andrew Graves, Chelsea Graves, Maddie Laughlin, and Atticus Wallace; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Trevor McElvain and Andrea Davenport, and four siblings, Helen Bassett, Floyd Griffin, Roy Hopkins, and Bobby Barfield.
Services will be private, and she will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 16 Hyland Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
