

Born on September 7, 1936, Ed was the son of the late Louis Francis Voorhees, Sr. and Elizabeth Peyton Voorhees. He was raised and educated in High Point, North Carolina, and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, Ed attended the NHLA School and embarked on a distinguished, lifelong career in the lumber industry. He began his professional journey with McEwen Lumber in High Point before moving to manage their Greenville, South Carolina location. In 1981, he founded his own operation, S4S, which evolved into Tidewater Lumber, a nationally recognized provider of specialty lumber and custom wood products.
Ed was deeply dedicated to his family and married Loretta Glover Voorhees in 1964. He was known as a true Renaissance man who cherished time spent with both his relatives, friends, and his work family, frequently sharing his passion for mechanics, woodworking, gardening, storytelling, and old cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Louis Francis Voorhees, Jr. (Evelyn), and his sister, Elizabeth Peyton Voorhees. Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Loretta; his children, Valerie F. Voorhees and Louis F . Voorhees II (Regenea); his grandchildren, Lauren Cherrier, Ryan Cherrier, Louis (Luke) F. Voorhees III (Emilee), Davis Voorhees, and Margaret (Maggie) Voorhees, Heather Burrows (Nate) and his great grandchildren, Jayce and Emery, and four nieces; Peyton Voorhees Wright, Elizabeth Voorhees Kellam, Van Voorhees Trivette, and Corinne Voorhees Everhart.
The family celebrated Ed's life and memories at a private family gathering.
