Esther Posey Smith

Mrs. Smith passed away on June 19, 2025, in Greenville, SC. Mrs. Smith was born in Aiken County, South Carolina on January 28,1926. She married the late Robert E. Johnsen in 1944. Their children included Margaret M. Winbourn, Christopher H. Johnsen (Janet), Lynwood R. Johnsen (deceased), Stephen C. Johnsen (Allison), and Carolyn L. Johnsen. Mrs. Smith married James C. Smith (deceased) in 1977. Her grandchildren include David C. Johnsen (Judy), Jason E. Winbourn (Angelica), Brian C. Winbourn, Keith S. Johnsen (Tracey), and Alyssa J. Brown (Ken). Her great-grandchildren include Noah P. Winbourn, Holley A. Winbourn, Barrett C. Winbourn, Sofia B. Winbourn, William (Bo) Dulin Brown, Wells McClary Brown, and Anna Banks Grace Brown.

Mrs. Smith rededicated her life to Christ in 1972 and remained faithful throughout her life. She faced adversity with hard work and persistence. She returned to school mid-life and earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught elementary school for many years until her retirement at the age of 65. Mrs. Smith loved her family and her church family. She enjoyed camellias and her husband even named a beautiful pink and white one after her.

She is also survived by 3 of her 5 siblings, Vera Mundy, Velma Wiseman, and Edward Posey.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Eastside Presbyterian Church located at: 830 Garlington Rd. Greenville SC 29615 followed by at 1:30 p.m.

The graveside service is will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Hwy in Graniteville, SC. 29829 at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
