Frances Harley Rogers, 94, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024. Born in Bamberg, SC, Frances was predeceased by her father, Harley Levi Rogers, her mother, Carlos Kinsey Rogers Dorsey, and her brother, Roy Kenneth Rogers.
Frances is survived by her brother, William Levi Rogers of Greer, nieces, Caroline Rogers Finnell (Doug) of Greenville, Jill Rogers Sutton (Gayle) of Travelers Rest, and Mary Alison Rogers of Easley, nephew, Eric Rogers (Michelle) of Easley, great-nieces, Casey Nicole Finnell Koehler (Greg) of North Charleston, and Sophie Elizabeth Finnell of Greenville, sister-in-law, Patricia "Pat" McClain Rogers of Easley, and her beloved cat, Freddy.
Frances graduated from Parker High School ('50), then worked a couple of years at Poe and Monaghan Mills before joining Stevens Aviation at Greenville Spartanburg Airport in 1953, beginning a 30 year career, and igniting her strong, lifelong passion for travel. Her adventures began when she joined her pilot coworkers on last minute private or chartered flights to wherever they were bound. By the late 1960s, Frances was traveling internationally and taking cruises to tropical locales. By the late 1980s, she was traveling in Europe and cruising the Mediterranean, in 1993, she was walking The Great Wall of China, and by the early 2000s she had been on every continent except the North and South Poles.
As further testament to her belief in charting her own path and living life on her own terms, when she was in her late 60s, Frances decided to build a home, where she lived independently, kept house, and drove herself on her errands up until a month before she died. She was an intelligent, witty, strong willed, classy lady and her family already sorely misses her.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the Greenville County Fire, Emergency and Coroner's offices for their exceptional professionalism, courtesy and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, Frances would want you to travel - whether it be a road trip or a trip of a lifetime - and make memories with those you love.
A a celebration of life for Frances will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, South Carolina 29609. The family will receive friends after the memorial service.
