Gilbert Loper

Son of the late Gilbert Harvey Loper and Laura Davis Loper, he is survived by eight children: Laurie Loper, Kathryn Buchanan, Jennifer Loper, Christopher Loper (Dana), James Loper (Lauren), Thomas Loper, William Loper, and Mary Beth Loper. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Margo, Ashley, Ellie, Noah, Grace, Everett, Kennedy and two great grandchildren Emma and Elias.

He was predeceased by his second wife Mary McCaughern Loper, his first wife Rosemary Cummings Loper, his brother Raymond Loper, and his sister Beth Russell.

Gilbert was a devoted family man who was grounded in life by his faith. Born and raised in Port Jefferson, NY, Gil was drafted into the Army before finishing his undergraduate degree at Lehigh University. Gil spent the majority of his career working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Among other things, Gil enjoyed working in the yard, watching the Atlanta Braves, and more importantly spending time with his family.

A memorial service to celebrate Gil’s life will be held Sunday, March 27 at 2 PM at Greenville Christian Fellowship Church located at 2220 State Park Rd., Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
