Gislina Steindorsdottir Farnsworth,89, passed away on August 21,2025 in Greenville, SC at Harmony Five Forks leaving all of her family members with a beautiful legacy of love of family, strong work ethic and living a full life of integrity and compassion. We are all better people from her gifts of love and devotion.
Gislina was born in Reykjavik, Iceland on May 5, 1936 to Steindor Petursson and Gudrun Gisladottir. While working on the U.S. Air Force Base in Keflavik, Iceland, she met Lt. William W. Farnsworth and it was true love at first sight. Her life would change forever from that point and they were married in Hendersonville, NC on September 26, 1959. It was so difficult leaving her family in Iceland but she knew her place was with her "Vilhjalmur" and that never changed until he died in 2019, after 60 years of marriage.
Gislina was predeceased by her parents, Steindor Petursson and Gudrun Gisladottir, two sisters, Fanney Petra and Ragnheidur, her half brother, Sigurdur Steindorsson and her son-in-law, Ronald E. Morris. After Vilhjalmur died, her zest for life went with him and all she talked about was being reunited with him.
Gislina is survived by 2 brothers, Omar Steindorsson and Jon Axel Steindorsson and 2 sisters, Maris S. Weiner and Dora Steindorsdottir Cabrera. She is survived by three children William Viktor Farnsworth, MD (Leah), Elisabet Farnsworth Wilson (Keith) and Linda Farnsworth Morris. She had 8 beautiful grandchildren that she was so proud of: Saxon, Mackenzie, Anna, Gunnar, Viktoria, Samuel, Grace, and Jakob and two great grandchildren, Baker and Olivia .
The funeral service will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 26th at 12:00 noon. Visitation for family will start at 11:00 a.m. and a graveside service will be held directly after the Chapel service.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Harmony at Five Forks for taking such wonderful care of our Mother in her last few months of life. They treated her like family and she felt very loved and secure in her own place over there.
If there was one phrase to sum up my Mom's life, it was "Love of Family". Family was her whole life and we felt that love and devotion always. She was a woman of so many talents. She was such a premier baker and cook and fantastic at hosting parties. Many will remember those. All of our friends were always welcome and a meal would be waiting. She always had the most modern haircuts and such a classic dresser but never boasted about anything. Since she was the ultimate perfectionist, there was always room for improvement.
Our whole family will miss her terribly but we are truly comforted to know she is back in Vilhjalmur's arms finally.
