Born in Pinsk, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Sonia Allen.
Irene was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, where she was a special honoree on her centennial birthday. She was a talented song writer, a wonderful devoted friend, especially to young people, and her infectious smile will be missed by all.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Tamara Strength. Surviving are her son Michael Cooley of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Lacy, Steve Friedberg, Phil Jeffrey, Ken Jeffrey and Chuck Jeffrey; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her beloved nephew and nieces, Bill and Kirsten Glickman, and Sandy Mannis.
Irene was comforted during her final years in friendship by Faith and Robert St. Claire.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10:30am at Beth Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi Marc Wilson officiating.
