
Irene Alice Schweitzer Irene Schweitzer, widow of John E. Schweitzer, passed away on November 5, 2014 at National Health Care in Mauldin, SC. She was born on February 14, 1921 in Carroll, Ohio, the daughter of the late Alfred Leroy and Cora Lehman. Irene was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a former member of the Carolina Golf and Tennis Club. She was a former active member of the Country Store with the Senior Citizens of Greenville where she was well known for her needlework and homemade jams and jellies. She always enjoyed quilting and working in her vegetable garden. Before she moved to Greenville in 1979, she worked for 19 years in the Baltimore, Ohio school cafeteria where she helped prepare and serve over 700 meals a day. She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Charlotte) Schweitzer of Greenville, SC, Robert (Lois) Schweitzer of Baltimore, Ohio, Tom Schweitzer and fiancée Melissa Duffy of Easley, SC; and daughter, Jane (John) Garber of Lancaster, Ohio. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: John Schweitzer (Michelle Thomasula) of Atlanta, GA, Joe (Suzette) Schweitzer of Piedmont, SC, Jeff Schweitzer (Mindy Embrey) of Pleasantville, Ohio, Sandy (Jeff) Neilsen of Baltimore, Ohio, Dr. Susie (Mike) Fain of Baltimore, Ohio, Stefanie (Brian) Whiteside of Greer, SC, Gentry (Adam) Theiss of Louisville, KY, Brynn (Chris) Giacomazzo of Minneapolis, MN, Heidi (Mark) Ozment of Blacklick, Ohio, Todd Boyer of Lancaster, Ohio; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Noel Lehman of Baltimore, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband of 74 years on July 22, 2014. A brother Lester Lehman and a sister Anna Chalfant also proceeded her in death. The family wishes to thank The Palmettos Assisted Living, NHC of Mauldin and Caris Hospice for their kind and loving care. Friends will be received to remember both John and Irene on Saturday, Nov.15th from 1:00-3:00PM at the Mackey Mortuary. A joint memorial service and interment will be planned for both John and Irene at a later date in Baltimore, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Rd., Greenville, SC 29607.
